Physical Activity
Healthy Aroostook collaborates with other local organizations and entities to form partnerships that offer physical activity opportunities to adults and youth in the Southern and Central Aroostook area. Some of the opportunities that address the challenges regarding physical activity are:
- Matter of Balance for seniors.
- Let’s Go Aroostook - an initiative that promotes healthy lifestyle choices for children, youth, and adults.
- After school programs that offer such activities as cross-country skiing.
- Trail development in Southern and Central Aroostook.
- Worksite wellness programs.

The Challenges
- 68.1% of adults in Maine did not exercise 20+ minutes of vigorous physical activity three or more days per week.
- 37.7% of Maine adults in 2007 were classified as overweight with another 25.2% classified as obese.
- More than 71% of Maine adults consumed fruits and vegetables less than 5 times a day.
- 93.3% of Maine youth did not attend daily physical education classes. 12.8% of Maine youth are obese and 79.6% ate fruits and vegetables less than 5 times a day.
